Fernanda Interview: Taking care of our skin

Today’s blog post is an interview with Fernanda, a licensed esthetician at Newport Beach Skin Care Center in Newport Beach, CA.

Tell me a little bit about yourself:

I’m a wife, mommy, dog-lover, and esthetician.  I was born in Argentina, raised in Boston and then later San Francisco.  I’ve lived in Orange County for 3 years and L-O-V-E it here!  I’m obsessed with the beach.  I love Jesus, believe in the power of positive mindset, meditation, and prayer. My daily makeup routine

On any given weekday, I am likely to use the same spread of products for a quick look – and by quick look, I mean “I have 5 minutes to throw all of these items on my face.” And now that my daughter is in school every day, there is so much else to get done that I feel I have even less time than I used to. But I feel that it is important I get myself ready for the day, because it is part of taking care of myself. Continue reading “My daily makeup routine”

Making a Capsule Wardrobe

I recently came across The Every Girl blog post on making a Capsule Wardrobe – and became quickly intrigued. Over the past couple of years, I’ve really scaled back my wardrobe and focused on quality more than quantity. So this seemed right up my alley. The basic premise is that for three straight months you keep only 37 items of clothing (including shoes and outerwear) in your closet for wearing. Each season you rotate some pieces out so that you keep it at the same number. I know that I am guilty of reaching for the same items again and again, so this capsule idea is very appealing. And I adore the idea of opening my closet and loving every single piece staring back at me.

Taking back 2015

So I decided early on in 2015 that this would be the year to try new things. Or even some new “old” things. It’s been long overdue to leave my little comfort zone and branch out a bit in some areas – even if they’re trivial or seem superficial, they still count!

Brazilian blowout – I splurged on this hair treatment two times so far this year. I love, love, love the results. It’s expensive, but it’s a dream come true for a mom who has to blow dry piece by piece and then flat-iron afterwards. All I do now is blast a blow dryer on it for 5 minutes and it looks like this – such a time saver. I highly recommend it if you have thick, frizzy hair that is hard to tame. Tuesday Favorites

A little Tuesday roundup of some of my faves and on my list to grab:

  • MKZara Body Curve jeggings – the best part about these jeans is how comfortable they are and the second best part is the price.  At $39.95 you can’t go wrong.
  • Michael Kors ‘Josephine’ wedge – I own other Michael Kors shoes and absolutely adore them.  I hear this wedge is the most comfortable one around.
  • Alex and Ani stackable charm bangle.  I own two of these (starfish and butterfly), and they are my go-to for day and night.  Hopefully, I’ll be adding this feather bangle to my collection soon.

Finding your self-care rhythm

Finding a new rhythm for anything is tricky.  Whenever life changes, it throws me for a loop.  It always takes time to work out the kinks, and it is no different for starting a new self-care regimen.

These are just some of the things that have helped me get back into the swing of things after becoming a mother.  Now, if you just had a baby, do NOT expect to embrace several new things at once.  Be gentle with yourself.  I have a nearly 5-year-old and a 2 1/2-year-old, and it’s taken me a long time to add these routines back into my life.  Slow and steady wins the race though. Looking and Feeling Your Best

IMG_4844For me, part of self-care has been spending time on myself each day to look and feel my best – which can be quite challenging with little ones!  Somewhere along the way in my motherhood journey, I stopped caring quite as much about hair, makeup, fashion and working out.  It wasn’t that I let myself go, but I just couldn’t muster up the time or energy once my second baby arrived.  I found myself in my ‘mom uniform’ of yoga pants and a tee pretty much every day with little to no makeup. Top Ten Tuesday: August 5

1.  If you’re a Costco addict (like no one in this house), this is a great write-up on items that truly are cheaper there – including a Dyson vacuum, which has seriously changed my life this year.  Did I just say that about a vacuum?

2.  It’s our family picture shoot in a few weeks, so time for a refill on my Makeup Forever HD Foundation – never take photos without it!  Definitely going to re-read these tips for taking a great photo.

3.  Too lazy to stop by the jewelry store to clean your rings, like me?  Try this easy DIY method using dishwashing soap and a toothbrush.

4.  Sorry, but this pic is just amazing – we are planning a Fall trip to NYC next year…really wish it was this year!

5.  Today is the last day to enter the Lookbook Store contest on Andee Layne’s blog – would love to win one of those prizes!  But even without winning, the pieces at Lookbook are super cute and totally affordable.

6.  We’ve been soaking up the summer sun and going on many an adventure these last few weeks before school starts back up.

7.  In doing that, I’ve been keeping this quote at the forefront of my mind.  ‘Cause inevitably, plans will end up changing with little ones in tow!

Monday Mantra

My mantra lately:

42fa40c97f5c4b1ff2cd2eefbbd20d87

I need to practice what I preach this week!  It’s been long days lately – I think summertime messes with routines a bit.  Plus more daylight means longer days I guess?  Oh, and it doesn’t help my 3-year-old is fighting the nap lately – nooo!  The dreaded dropping of the nap!!  I have wondered and worried when that would come to fruition.

I went to Michael’s over the weekend with my family to get some supplies for a few fun projects around the house.  I’ve been feeling the itch to get a few things hung and some projects accomplished.  I think that will help me to get my creative juices flowing.  I plan to involve my daughter for one of them, which will be a fun thing to do together.

I was able to get to Nordstrom for their anniversary sale last week and purchased a few fun things – the best one being this ‘Pale Pink’ blush by, of course, Bobbi Brown:

photoThe MM and L girls have always recommended it and give a great tutorial in this video – along with Bobbi’s Shimmer Brick in bronze which I love too!

Hope everyone has a great Monday!
