Fernanda Interview: Taking care of our skin

Today’s blog post is an interview with Fernanda, a licensed esthetician at Newport Beach Skin Care Center in Newport Beach, CA.

Tell me a little bit about yourself:

I’m a wife, mommy, dog-lover, and esthetician.  I was born in Argentina, raised in Boston and then later San Francisco.  I’ve lived in Orange County for 3 years and L-O-V-E it here!  I’m obsessed with the beach.  I love Jesus, believe in the power of positive mindset, meditation, and prayer.

Can you tell me what your skincare regimen looks like?

Once a month I perform microdermabrasion and a chemical peel on my skin.  Every few months I receive Botox in parts of my forehead.  Every morning and night I cleanse and hydrate with quality products.  Additionally I infuse serums, masks, and eyecreams into my skin.  I swear by using retinols, vitamin c, and hydroquinone.

What are your top 3 tips for taking care of your skin?

It’s simple.  Use quality products with great ingredients (in my practice I use Image Skin Care).  Get a monthly facial because this mimics the body’s once natural ability to turn over dead skin cells and produce collagen every 28-32 days the way we did in our youth.  And finally, always use sunblock, (even when it’s cold and overcast).

Lastly, what advice do you have for me as a woman approaching 40 in a few years – what should I be doing to prevent more fine lines?

Use SPF religiously, use a retinol at least 3 nights per week, and don’t use cheap ingredients.  ☺

Thank you so much, Fernanda, for the skincare tips! I will be scheduling a facial soon for sure! Be sure to also check out Fernanda at Living in Style OC, where she is a health and beauty contributor. I love her columns!
