On any given weekday, I am likely to use the same spread of products for a quick look – and by quick look, I mean “I have 5 minutes to throw all of these items on my face.” And now that my daughter is in school every day, there is so much else to get done that I feel I have even less time than I used to. But I feel that it is important I get myself ready for the day, because it is part of taking care of myself.
To start, I typically put on Neutrogena BB Cream after I’ve cleansed and moisturized. Now, I’ve tried several other BBs and I have to say Smashbox is my favorite. But I’m not really looking for full coverage, or I would just use my foundation. Neutrogena has a great price point at $16 and does the job for me. Smashbox and Bobbi Brown do offer a bit more coverage though.
Next step is Mac Give Me Sun bronzer, Bobbi Brown Pale Pink blush, and Shimmer Brick by Bobbi Brown (in bronze). I use my Mac brush to dust the Give Me Sun on the high points of my cheekbones and around my hairline and on my neck a bit- basically where sun would hit naturally. This just adds some dimension to my face. Next, I apply the Pale Pink blush (notice chunk taken out by toddler) on the apples of my cheeks. Finally, I use the Shimmer Brick to blend the two together. The Shimmer Brick adds a dewy glow to my face.
The next step is one that should not be taken lightly. Eyebrows. The most defining feature of the face. My brows have become sparse over the years, so I fill them in with an angled brush using Anastasia brow powder duo. Now I have to say that the quality of your brush is important for this application. A few months ago, I splurged on a Mac angled brush and let me tell you, it makes all the difference. It grabs the product so much better and I feel like I have better control applying the powder.

Last but not least, I do some neutral eye shadow from the original Naked eyeshadow palette that I bought years ago. I really need to invest in a new palette soon, because the colors are running low. I use the smallest yellow brush to put Mac Brun eye shadow on my lash line rather than using a liner. I find it too harsh, and prefer the soft look of the powder. I finish the lids off with some Mac Brun in the outer corners, using that fluffy black Mac brush (another splurge this summer – definitely worth it). I try to use my eyelash curler, but to be honest, I run out of time most days. I apply one or two coats of Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara to complete my eyes.
Remember how I said I splurged on a few brushes? As you can see from my pics, I am definitely in need of some good ones, but these will have to do for now. There are many others not pictured as well. I have bought mediocre ones over the years and the hair is falling out on some of them which drives me absolutely crazy.
I complete the “look” by using Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer under my eyes.
I usually then throw on some gloss or lipstick in the car. I wish I could say I was more adventurous with my lips, but I definitely fall back on these guys:
My nighttime makeup looks different – I will almost always do some highlighting and contouring for an evening out. But that is a separate post. Hope you enjoyed my explanation. I really do feel (for me) that makeup is an important part of my self-care routine. It pays to make it a part of my day because I know I feel my best when I look my best, too.
